Oocyte donation was first successfully performed in 1984 and is a growing area of ART. Oocyte (egg) donation is a medical procedure in which a woman donates her eggs to another individual or couple for the purpose of assisted reproduction, such as in vitro fertilization (IVF). The donated eggs are fertilized with sperm in a laboratory setting, and the resulting embryos are transferred to the recipient’s uterus to achieve pregnancy. Oocyte donation has been proven to be a successful option for women who cannot conceive with their oocytes because of advanced age, diminished ovarian reserve, or genetic disease.
